Tips for Building a Successful Online Fitness Business

If you’re looking to become an online fitness coach, it can be a lucrative career with the right systems, marketing, and discipline. If you want to know how the most successful online coaches do it, you need to take a look at their habits, consistency, and branding.

Well, the right habits will help you propel your business. Here are some productive habits that successful online health and wellness coaches have in common.

Build Templates that can be Tailored to Clients. When building your program, you should have a good solid set of lead magnets, workout templates, nutrition guides, and other templates made for specific goals and types of clients. Yes, you will be offering some customization for clients with special needs and accommodations but typically the majority of your clients will be following your method or program as is. 

Make 1-2 progressions and regressions per exercise for every template you build. When you get a new client that meets your client avatar, give them your assessment, and then you can base their individual program on an existing template.

Keep it Simple. Although you can achieve a highly profitable business, we find that most successful coaches want to be able to buy back their time and have more flexibility. You can do that by keeping it simple!

You don’t need thousands of clients. Based on the cost of your program, you can make a great income with a lot less as a client base. Sometimes rookie trainers make the mistake of making complicated marketing funnels trying to capture thousands of potential clients. Instead, take advantage of a more robust, targeted campaign to get those who want your program and will be more likely to sign up.

  • Take advantage of your personal networks

  • Reach out personally and sell them with your expertise

  • Don’t be afraid to follow up

You can tell them about your amazing new online health and fitness program by sending 15-30 people a day a personal message initiating a conversation. You will want to tell them of the benefits of a customized health and wellness program which include: 

  • It’s more cost-effective

  • Scheduling is easy and you can do it anytime

  • They can work with a coach who has a proven, trusted method – not just a trainer at the gym down the street.

Honestly, that’s usually enough for most trainers to fill up their schedule. 

Start small, keep it simple, and then once you have your first 5-15 clients, you can look to scale up and even outsource some of your more administrative tasks to keep from becoming overwhelmed. 

Build systems and detailed documentation. At this stage, a system that supports your business is essential. If you aren’t sure how to accomplish that, getting solutions from a business that’s experienced can be beneficial.

A thoughtful email system is one that has organized funnels for both leads and clients. 

A welcome package for new clients in an easy-to-send pdf is invaluable. It will welcome them to your training, give them an overview of how everything works, defines jargon they may or may not know, answers common questions, and is something they can always refer back to. 

The more complete your welcome package is, the fewer questions you will receive. Every time a client sends a question that isn’t in the packet, be sure to add the question and answer to the template so that all new clients will benefit as well.
